Course Description
Note: Trigonometry [Competency Based] contains Quarter Parts 1 and 2.
What is the connection between angles, functions, and wave-like motions? In Trigonometry, you will extend your knowledge of basic functions to the trigonometric family. You will explore angle measures and how these relate to the unit circle. You will discover the connection between the unit circle and trigonometric ratios and use equation-solving techniques with trigonometric identities to solve applications. You will examine the appearance of trigonometric functions on the coordinate plane. Finally, you will use trigonometric functions to model problems involving directional bearings and harmonic motion.
In the second part of Trigonometry, you will further explore identities and equations of the quadratic type. You will learn about sum, difference, and multiple-angle formulas and use them to solve complex trigonometric equations. Next, you will derive the law of sines and the law of cosines and use them to solve applications. You will continue the course by investigating the polar coordinate system and parametric equations. Finally, you will examine vectors and their characteristics, including magnitude and direction.
Course Goals
- Analyze the unit circle and its relation to trigonometric functions.
- Construct graphs of trigonometric functions and identify their key components.
- Explore the effects of operations between functions.
- Apply trigonometric identities and formulas to solve problems.
- Create equations of conic sections, given a set of requirements.
- Investigate exponential and logarithmic functions.
